The entrance was completely transformed when we installed this 5 foot diameter window in a new custom built home near Vernon, BC. The inspiration for the project was a rock formation on the beach behind the property, named by our client “Bonsai Rock” for the small but perfectly formed trees that grow on the top. We wanted our design to celebrate the natural beauty of the Okanagan, especially the amazing sunsets over the mountains, and to have movement and a flow evocative of the wind which would take the eye of the viewer around the window. To achieve this we used hand made mouth blown glass for the extensive colour palette, acid etching on pale blue flash to illustrate the white crests of the waves at the beach and multiple glass painting techniques to illustrate movement in the sky and as the waves approach the shore line. Heartwood Homes of Vernon built the stunning home and worked with us to make sure that the frame and opening size were correct so that the window fit perfectly. Most importantly, our client felt that we had exceeded all his expectations for the project and he is delighted. He has adopted the window design as a kind of motif for the property – we’re looking forward to seeing our design translated into a metal cut-out for the entrance gate!
“Laura and John created a stained glass masterpiece that is the focal point of our home. It is an amazing piece of art and we could not be happier with the creative process, the finished product and installation. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend them to anyone wanting the highest quality workmanship and a collaborative creative experience. Thank you very much to both of you!” ~ Rob F.
