Menora

I was looking back through some older images and I came across one that made me smile. This image of a menorah always reminds me of when we first arrived in Canada in 2005. It reminds me of difficulties because our belongings got stuck in a strike and so we couldn’t set up our home or get our business underway for months longer than we had anticipated, but it also reminds me of how much  encouragement we received from the community far and wide. John had been discussing the issue on CBC Radio and was heard by a Jewish Cantor in White Plains, New York who called to offer his support and we ended up eventually making this small panel for his office in Woodlands Community Temple. It was created from a single piece of blue “flashed” glass (a thin layer of coloured glass over clear glass), partially etched to create the Hebrew text and fully etched to create the shape of the menorah which was then painted and silver stained to create the light amber/gold colour. A simple thank you for a kind and appreciated gesture.
