Today’s blast from the past is a window that we did back in 2002 when we had a studio in the UK, it was produced for another stained glass company in Cardiff, S Wales, one of the 39 dotted around the globe we used to supply with our artwork. They wanted a depiction of Guru Nanak Dev Ji who was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. Their client decided that they wanted the stained glass for their sacred space in their home rather than in the Gurdwara that they attended. The word “Guru” means “teacher” in Sanskrit; his teachings were expressed through devotional hymns, many of which still survive, and the beauty of his expression is apparent in early Sikh theology.
One of my favourite parts of our work is the research that goes into depicting a subject; so many new things to learn, and as we create windows for all denominations and faiths it is fascinating to delve into the lives of beloved religious and spiritual figures.
