St Peter’s Church, South Barrow, Somerset, UK

We recently received a blast from the past in the form of a letter from St Peter’s church in South Barrow, Somerset, UK.
Back in 2003 we created a window for this lovely church which depicted symbolism of St Peter and an abstract expression of the beautiful local countryside. At that time our primary contact during the project was a very smart and dry witted lady named Beulah Connolly with whom we got along so well that she accommodated John during the installation of the window, after which they enjoyed a good whiskey and great stories about her time at the Foreign Office in Whitehall. Sadly, Beulah died during the pandemic. We have been very fortunate to have met some wonderful people during our stained glass journey, but there are those who really stand out as unique with the rare ability to make you feel better just for having talked to them. Beulah was one of those people and she will be missed by many.
The church committee decided to commission a textile designer, Janet McCallum, to design and make an altar frontal to honour Beulah’s memory. The final design was inspired by sunshine illuminating our stained glass window. It looks beautiful, an extension of our window from the rear of the sanctuary to the altar, and a fitting tribute to Beulah and her indomitable spirit.
