We’re nearing the end of painting our Vermeer window; our interpretation of the painting “The Glass of Wine” for the lobby of the Vermeer on Fourth. Painting figures; detailed faces, hands and drapery takes time, patience and perseverance. Our painting style is precise and decorative, but more importantly it allows light to penetrate even the darkest tones so that the inherent jewel-like quality of mouth blown glass is never smothered.
Pictured on the easel is our “Blue Guy” in all his 17th Century dutch glory; he has yet to have his hair darkened and wine added to his decanter – I’m sure he’s waiting eagerly for that!
A section of our “Red Girl” is also pictured on the easel. John has done a fabulous job of portraying her delicate features and expression – female faces are more intricate to paint than male, and red is a very demanding colour to work with in drapery, so all in all I’d say she has a challenging personality…
